About the Piece

A Storm I Couldn’t Hold was the first piece I painted after losing my husband. I was only a month postpartum with our second son and trying to navigate grief, motherhood, and a life that had changed completely in such a short amount of time.

When I finally picked up a paintbrush again, this is what came out of me. The storm and lightning felt like the only way I could put into an image everything I was carrying at the time. There was so much happening inside of me that I didn't have words for yet.

This piece will always be deeply personal to me because it marks the moment I found my way back to painting, even when I wasn't sure what moving forward was supposed to look like.
